The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to promote a safer Idaho by reducing recidivism
The District 3, Probation and Parole Office has a current opening for a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist (DARS). DARS provide professional rehabilitation consultation in the treatment of adult male and/or female probationers who have documented histories of drug and/or alcohol abuse. These positions are full time with non-traditional hours and work with probationers in an intensive programming environment. Knowledge of computers is important as most record keeping is done on the computer. The desirable candidate will possess certification with the GAIN-I screening instrument and have knowledge of Criminal Justice. These positions work as part of a program team.
Note: You must be willing to work in the correctional environment.

Responsibilities:
Conduct initial intake interviews with clients and collateral contacts to obtain background data and social information
Develop treatment or referral plan to meet a client's progress and modify treatment plans where more responsiveness is desired
Conduct one-to-one, group, and family consultation and treatment programs
Conduct crisis intervention and referral on an as needed basis
Administer GAIN assessments and prepare GRRS reports within assigned deadlines (District offices only)
Participate with community groups and other public agencies in developing program needs and problem-solving techniques
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Good knowledge of Drug & Alcohol treatment course work and experience to include: performing client assessments; performing case management; developing and implementing treatment plans; and monitoring client behaviors
Computer proficiency for data entry, electronic mail, composing reports and letters, and storing and retrieving documents
Willing to work non-traditional hours (evening hours up to 10 p.m. and/or weekends) in a correctional facility and/or Probation and Parole district office providing program facilitation and case management services to offenders
DESIRABLE
Qualifications:
Knowledge of criminal justice
Certification in GAIN-I screening instruments
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
Having a history of law-abiding behavior
Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
EXAMINATION:
You will receive a score based on your education and experience in the answers to the exam. A minimum score of 52 is required to pass. Notification of your test results will be available online when the exam review process has been completed. All answers to the questions on the exam must be supported in the work history, resume, and/or education portion of your application.
